From 1999 to 2007, we have completed renovations of our church, parish hall and rectory. These were possible from savings and donations. We did not have a Capital Campaign. Major items include:
- Put new roofs on each building.
- Tuck pointed and sealed the bricks on all buildings.
- Put all the utilities underground on the property.
- Landscaped the entire block – designed around a new plaza between the buildings.
- Installed irrigation system.
- Installed a bird abatement system for the building roofs.
- Replaced broken sidewalks around the buildings.
- Fenced around the 2/3of the perimeter of the buildings.
- Installed new heating systems (with air conditioning) in the church and rectory.
- Removed 14 Stained Glass Windows, then restored and reinstalled them with new storm windows and wood trim.
- Renovated 3 floors of the rectory—new bathrooms, flooring – new carpet or restored hardwood, paint, window coverings and furnishing.
- Refinished the rectory doors and added a safety gate.
- Improved the archive room in the rectory.
- Renovated the floors and rooms of both levels of the hall and installed a sink on the second floor.
- Removed asbestos in the hall and rectory.
- Had a new cross designed and installed on the spire of the church.
- Commissioned and installed a statue of Our Lady of Vancouver on the newly designed Plaza.
- Repaved and striped our parking lot
- Finished the basement rooms of the rectory so they can be used for offices and volunteer work as well as clean laundry room and work spaces.
- Installed listening devices for the handicapped in the church.
- Installed a new sound system and removed the unsightly old one.
- Installed computers and internet for all employees.
- Set up the hall to accommodate 9 classrooms with moveable walls and classroom amenities.
- Restructured the administration of St. James Acre Cemetery and celebrated its renaming: Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Vancouver.
- Installed new signage and lighted landscaping at the cemetery
- Installed a columbarium and purchased more property.
